About The Director
Peter Martin graduated from the School of Broadcasting, London, England in 1969 and started his show biz career as DJ on the radio and in clubs in the UK at the age of 17. By the time he was 22 he’d already directed several stage productions including two that featured disabled actors.
Then he moved to France where he worked as camera op for 20 years and DP for the past 6. During this time he’d returned to the radio part-time, creating an agency for voice work. He has directed numerous documentary productions and infomercials, both audio and video. He has also directed camera crews on over 200 multi-camera live shows.
His film work continued in Canada where he now resides having Permanent Resident status. Then the chance meeting with author Randy A. Gordon led to something else. Already suffering from a disabling movement disorder, hemi-dystonia, he’d foreseen the end of his camera op days and was seeking another position in the film industry.
With his previous directing experience, in particular with disabled actors, he rose to the challenge of “Wannabe”. Peter, by virtue of his role as leader, is incredibly good at motivating his entourage. Teamwork is primary to his work. He is extraordinarily decisive and has an exceptionally clear vision of what needs to be achieved on set and always gets the best out of his team.
Peter Says...
"Randy A. Gordon has very cleverly written this screenplay, intermingling a love story with a psychological problem and exploring the handicaps faced by disabled people through the eyes and experiences of a non-disabled person who identifies with the former group. The many varied attitudes of the general public are apparent as well as people's prejudice, intolerance, indifference, ignorance and downright incomprehension.
The action moves along at sports wheelchair speed. It makes us laugh and cry, and arouses just about as many emotions as a full-length feature film can. Above all, it informs us of a little-known psychological (perhaps neurological) disorder and how our leading principal, Tracy, tries to deal with it.
The screenplay catches our attention right from the start. We are guided through the early stages by Tracy on voice-over as she not only introduces us to the other principals but also tries to explain her condition and her needs. By the middle of the film the audience hasn't really had to think too hard about what is happening but is starting to ask itself a heck of a lot of questions. We find out, or rather we try to understand along with Tracy herself, why she is a "Wannabe".
A psychological drama that is definitely out of the ordinary, that holds the audience's attention from start to end, "Wannabe" is a Have-To-See."

Son travail cinématographique
se poursuit au Canada où il
réside actuellement ayant le statut
de résident permanent. Puis
la rencontre fortuite avec
l'auteur Randy Gordon
A. conduit à autre
chose.
