Synopsis
TRACY is a young university student who suffers from a rare disorder causing an identity conflict between her brain and her actual physical state. In short she feels she’s meant to be paraplegic. She's been like this ever since she can remember.

She lives her life alternating between being able-bodied and disabled by pretending, using a wheelchair at university. She tries to keep her condition a secret from her fellow students and family while discovering who she really is. She tries to accommodate the expectations, and deal with the reactions, of people around her, sometimes with disastrous consequences.

Tracy regularly sees DR. KATRAVAN, the university’s therapist, who is very understanding but he cannot help her.

It is after a visit to Dr. Katravan that Tracy bumps into CARL who takes a liking to her. Carl invites her to a song writing festival where he reads lyrics dedicated to her. In the embarrassment and the upset that follows, Tracy “comes out” to Carl. He appears to accept the way she is, yet she shuns him in shame, not believing that anyone can accept her and her condition.

SCOTT, a disabled guy, who also takes a shining to her, invites her out to dinner but asks some awkward questions.

The next day Tracy tells her best friend JANIE about her difficult dates. Janie is a muddle some, disorganized character but she knows all about her best friend and desperately wants to understand her problem.

So one day she asks Tracy if they could reverse roles and go out with her using Tracy’s wheelchair. They do, but in spite of going to a neighbouring town, they bump into Scott! Upon seeing Tracy walking normally he is furious at her deceiving activities and spills the beans to just about everyone including a disabled sports group, of which they are both members, and even Tracy’s parents. There is nobody to help her. She gets kicked out of the group and she gets kicked out of the house by her father.

Dr. Katravan says there’s no known cure and all Janie can do is listen but Tracy just wants to be herself. She cannot be, so she decides to commit suicide.

It is now that disorganized Janie suddenly becomes efficient and she calls Carl who immediately rushes to help. Tracy is “saved” in everyone’s eyes but hers. The redemption she needed has been taken away and she’s back to square one. Janie continues to be leader however and steers her friend nearer to Carl. Almost at the same time the head of the sports group, JAMES, visits Tracy to invite her back and even her parents relent.

She has no relief from her disorder and is still hopelessly able-bodied but she finally falls in love with the guy she’d shunned for so long. Tracy is happier? Not really. She wheels up the aisle to get married but she could have just as easily walked. But right at the last moment, Dr. Katravan hands Tracy a note. - A note of hope.
